A little can go a long way

Yesterday, I received another contest form letter rejecting my manuscript. Nothing unusual in that, except that the editor wrote at the bottom:

Sorry - It's a strong & moving mss -


That's enough to keep me going for another year.

Yes, "strong" is a word we writers love to be applied to our work. But how can you be rejected from a contest?

I guess you're right. Technically, one isn't rejected from a contest; one just loses. But the upshot is that the manuscript isn't accepted for publication, so I lump it in the rejections category.
